What is a mole (Nevus)?
Nevus are tumors that form as a result of the proliferation of some cells in the skin. There are dozens of types of nevus that develop on our skin. While some nevi may be congenital, some may develop later.
How is Nevus Excision performed?
Nevus excision is performed under local anesthesia. After local anesthesia, the nevus is removed, including all its borders, and the resulting incision area is sutured with thin sutures. Although it varies depending on the body area removed, the sutures are generally removed after 7-10 days. Suture removal is a painless procedure and does not require repeat local anesthesia.
Will there be a scar after nevus excision?
Although it depends on the person's wound healing and post-procedure wound care, the risk of scarring after the procedure is quite low. In addition, it is recommended to use antiscarring creams/gels for approximately 3 months in order to reduce the risk of scarring after the sutures are removed.
