Psoriasis is a skin disease characterized by erythematous-scaly (scaly) plaques, especially in the knees, elbows, scalp and waist area. Psoriasis is named after the pearly color of the scales (crusts). It is seen at a rate of 1-3% in the society.
Is psoriasis contagious?
Psoriasis is not a contagious disease. Psoriasis is not transmitted by shaking hands, sitting on the same couch, or sharing the same bed.
Does psoriasis only affect the skin?
Psoriasis can also affect nails, scalp and joints. Additionally, there is an increase in the frequency of diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, and depression in psoriasis patients.
Is there a treatment for psoriasis?
Depending on the type and extent of psoriasis, topical treatments (creams and ointments), phototherapy (light therapy), conventional systemic treatments (pill and injection treatments) and biological agents can be used.
What are the factors that trigger psoriasis?
Stress, trauma, infections, endocrine changes, climate and seasonal changes, smoking and some medications can increase the disease.
What are the drugs that increase psoriasis?
Lithium, antimalarial drugs, beta blockers, iodine, progesterone, indomethacin and systemic steroids, etc.
